牙菌斑可以在饭后几小时内形成，以下是狗狗产生牙菌斑的4个主要原因：;
狗狗吃了含有碳水化合物的食物
细菌喜欢碳水化合物，给狗狗喂食含碳水化合物的食物会增加牙菌斑的聚集。
长期给狗狗喂食大量的软食
如果长期给狗狗喂食大量的软食，狗狗缺乏对食物的咀嚼，会形成更多的牙菌斑。
小型犬的口腔环境更容易滋生牙菌斑
小型品种的狗狗嘴较小，牙齿排列更为拥挤，某些牙齿的生长方向可能千奇百怪，导致牙菌斑更容易迅速堆积。
年龄越大的狗狗越容易产生牙菌斑
